Cerys has been dancing for 25 years. Her love of dance is rooted in early experiences of Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz and Musical Theatre but her passion now lies in urban dance styles including Street and Hip-Hop. Cerys has been a member of two local Street and Hip-Hop Dance crews who have trained, performed and competed in the South East region of England. She has experience in teaching dance to children and adults in England and overseas. Since gaining Qualified Teacher Status in 2004, she has set up extra-curricular Street Dance clubs for many different schools and choreographed dances for numerous school productions spanning over five years of dedicated primary school teaching.
In 2006, her teaching took her to Thailand where she organised her school’s first and second annual dance festivals and scripted, choreographed and directed four whole school productions. She also set up and ran extra-curricular Dance and Musical Theatre clubs for the school and led daily whole school ‘Wake up Shake up’ morning dancercise sessions for children and teachers. During her two years in Thailand, Cerys had the opportunity to train in various world dance styles at her own level, which have inspired the brand of fusion Street Dance that she now teaches. Now in England, Cerys is an IDTA qualified dance teacher and works in partnership with a number of schools, sports organisations, local authorities and community groups to provide dance tuition to children, young people and adults, as well as running her own Reading based dance school, specialising in Street Dance.
Sheren started dancing at the age of 3 and over the years undertook training in ballet, tap, jazz and musical theatre, the latter two being her passion. Sheren first performed on the stage at the tender age of 4 at the Theatre Royal in Norwich. Privately educated at all girls school where dance and drama were very much part of the timetable, Sheren’s parents were not happy for her to go to drama school although she was accepted at RADA. Consequently training as a nurse seemed the natural thing to do as her family had a medical background. However she continued to dance and perform at every opportunity. In 1985 Sheren gave up nursing to take her Diploma in Personal Training. With her passion renewed, she continued to take further qualifications in Fitness and acquired the following: Gym Instructor, ETM Instructor, Circuits Instructor, Diploma in Weight Management& Nutrition, Body Pump Instructor, Fit Kid Instructor, Body Ball Instructor and Pole Fit Instructor. In 1987 Sheren moved to Hampshire and was spotted whilst attending a dance class and asked to audition to be part of a cabaret / can-can dance group. The group founder and choreographer was an ex Tiller Girl and it was through her expert tuition Sheren learned and developed her passion for showgirl / Burlesque dancing. After dancing with the troupe at shows all over the south of England performing numerous show girl routines and always finishing with the wildly popular can can, as well as doing yearly Panto, Sheren retired from the stage in 2000 to concentrate on teaching dance fitness. With the launch of programmes like Strictly etc, Sheren quickly realised how many women, mums and grannies had a secret desire to dance but felt they were too old or had left it too late and would struggle in a dance class and feel silly. As well as this she discovered that many women wanting to get fit didn’t enjoy the standard fitness classes offered at gyms so therefore Salsatone was born and all the classes within it. PDS is excited that Sheren has brought her exciting adult classes to their studios.
